New B2B platform design for BBC iPlayer. Softwire dev team

Led the design of an (extended) MVP phase for a new B2B registration and booking platform for BBC iPlayer, consolidating and replacing multiple backend systems and legacy technologies into a single, scalable solution.

Designed two distinct user experiences - Partner (external eg Apple, Samsung new devices) and Admin (internal management and technicians), each experience was structured across two respective views.

  • Identified and clarified typical use cases for registration and booking functions, spanning external Partners and internal Admin teams.

Mapped the full lifecycle with client and Softwire engineer and dev teams, including:

    • device registration

    • non-linear form completion

    • test booking

    • reporting

    • approval/rejection workflows

    • archival history

    • etc

Our focus was ensuring clarity of actions, system states and edge cases.

The use case framework aligned operational processes with product logic, creating a scalable foundation for MVP delivery and future platform growth.

  • Designed and iterated user journeys via wireframes and prototypes:

    • role-specific dashboards

    • filtered views

    • conditional actions to reduce complexity

    • embedded validation, accessibility and governance throughout

Accessibility is key to BBC GEL deign system, as is consistency and scalability at every level, driving design decision-making.

  • Brought the platform into closer alignment with the BBC master brand through adoption of the GEL design system, and added new chapters, patterns and guidelines for the newly emerging BBC B2B Internal / External design system.
